Default exhaust / muffler question

i currently have a Greddy SP catback. i want to change my muffler to the ITR. i just need something that is quiet and has good flow numbers.

i need to know if this is require welding? or if i can just take the last portion of the greddy muffler and pipe off, and bolt on the ITR.

i was also concerned about the bends of the pipe because i have a sedan, and that might differ in the way the exhaust pipe has to bend.

thanks for the input.

You'll probably have to do some welding if you're trying to bolt it to GReddy piping. The axle-back section of the ITR exhaust uses a 2-bolt flange with flexible gasket and those springy bolts. Your GReddy piping probably uses 3-bolt flanges w/ regular bolts and a crush gasket. The ITR axle-back section might also be a bit short, since 4dr Integras have slightly longer exhausts. You can weld a 3-bolt flange onto the ITR axle-back so it'll bolt to the GReddy piping, or you can get the entire ITR cat-back and lengthen some of the piping. If you don't mind keeping your SP and just want it to be quieter, you can get an inline resonator welded into the A-pipe, which will quiet it down. If you already have a resonator there, you can weld an additional one in downstream a bit.

thanks chris.

well i checked online, and greddy uses a 2 bolt also.

heres a pic:

so im wondering if i can unbolt that last section, then replace that whole section with the ITR pipe and muffler?

The GReddy 2-bolt flange is different from the stock flange on the ITR axle-back section. The ITR flange is like the other stock Honda flanges. The B pipe flange has a flexible gasket that seals into a cup on the axle-back flange, and the two are held together with bolts, springs, and nuts:

You may be able to get the stock ITR axle-back flange to bolt up to the GReddy piping, but I'm not sure if it'll seal properly, and you may have an exhaust leak(which is annoying). Let's say you got it to bolt up, the ITR is a 2dr(well, technically a hatch) and as you probably know 3rd gen 4dr Integra exhausts are longer than the 2dr ones, so the ITR axle-back's piping may not be long enough to clear your LCA and bumper.

ahh i see now.

would it be a problem if i cut the flange off my greddy and cut the flange off the ITR muffler and weld the flange from the greddy to the ITR? and at the same time get a shop to extend the piping a bit?

would that be a wise thing to do?

You could do that. As for the prudence of it, I'm not sure how the flow characteristics of the ITR muffler differ from the GReddy SP muffler. The muffler shop may even have a 2-bolt flange that'll match the GReddy B pipe so you may not even need to cut the flange off the GReddy axle-back section. That way, you can always go back to the GReddy, or sell it off if you don't want to keep it around. If you can get an ITR axle-back for cheap, and then have a muffler shop weld on the appropriate 2-bolt flange, and extend it where it needs to be extended, that'd be cool, and you wouldn't need to hack up your GReddy axle-back for the flange.
