Default having some problems after the swap

my buddie just swapped a sir2 into his 98 civic coupe.
when shifting, the rpms drop down below 1k to below 500 and it feels like the car wants to cut out, but then it will pop back up to 1k. after that happends vtec will no longer engage. if we turn off the car and restart it, as long as it doesnt give that sound like it wants to cut off, everything runs fine. every once in a while as well, upon shifting the oil light flickers. also, when shifting his lights will dim, but then once in gear they will be fully lit. also, his alternator is kinda loud. any input is appreciated.

the exact thing happened to my car, right before the clutch blew

as for the rest, replace the alternator or check to make sure the belt is tight enough.

EDIT: oil level and battery, as well.
