vtec higher cams aren't working...NEED HELP ASAP
Hey Guys,
On my way home from class, i wanted to test vtec just to make sure everything was A OK. anyways, i am used to engagement at 5,500 rpm, it didn't engage until about 6,700 RPM. I then stopped, and tried again, this time, it didn't engage at all. I went straight home, checked oil and the oil is perfectly clear with about 2000 miles and filled properly. i then check connections to the vtec selonoid and everything seem fine. I REALLY NEED HELP TO GET THIS FIXED. ANY AND ALL ADVISE IS GREAT. I have all ready searched and cannot solve, so don't be abnoxious and tell me to search other forums.
From talking with another member (sherwood) my lower cams are taking me up to about 6K RPMs and normally, higher cams should take over at 5.5K RPMs. After 6K RPMs, acceleration almost comes to a hault. It doesn't accelerate that fast after 6K rpm's and i hear nor feel vtec. PLEASE HELP
Background info:
B16a2 w/ about 40K miles in a Del Sol
I/E/H, B&M FPR, etc...

Thanks in advance for the help

I don't know but I'm really jealous you have a Mugen ECU :-)
I recently had that problem right before I turned my engine in for a rebuild. I'll get it back on the 25th, and will let you know if it's fixed. ...yea, that didn't help at all...
Good luck

lol, thanx bud. it's weird, when it comes down to it, since i am not throwing any cels, it might just happen to be that REALLY EXPENSIVE ecu....if i have to replace it, all hell will break loose. only had it for about 3 months now, since the swap :-(
I was thinking that too. The "asshole who owned my car before me" put an OBD1 ECU in mine with an eBay chip that "learns the driver." It might be learning or teaching during VTEC which could be problematic.
Let me do some research and get back to you...

thanx for the advise das schmoo.
current update. ended up cleaning everything in and around vtec, flushed fuel lines and did a quick oil change. VTEC is NOW WORKING. Here is the key though. Last i remember, about 1 week ago, vtec engaged at 5,500 RPM sharp, now it is lagging and engaging at about 6050 - 6100 RPM's. What can I do to drop that number back down ??? like i said, sorry for the noob questions when it comes to vtec, i thought i knew it better then i really do. i understand what it does, just not exactly how it works.
THanks
