Default idle problem

i just took care of the oil leak in my last post and it now time to tackle problem 2. when the car is warming up it idles at about 1.5 rpm.. once the car warm up it drop to about 8-1 rpm.. after about 5 minute of driving and i come to a stop in neutral the car idles at 1.5 rpm and will not drop to were it should be.. i check for leaks, and all gaskets are new.. any idea on what else to check for?? i have no cel code either.. thanks in advance.

You didn't say what car you have, other than your username (civic?)

Sometime around 1996 (depending on model) Honda eliminated the FITV & incorporated it's function into the newer-type IACV.

'98 B18C1 doesn't have an FITV. It would have been bolted to the underside of the throttle body (if it was '94-'95).

You can clean the IACV with carb cleaner, also make sure there's no air in your cooling system. Clean the TB bore & make sure the throttle closes completely. (Throttle cable sticking?)

Adjust your base idle...
1) Warm up the engine completely, turn off all accessory loads.
2) Unplug the electrical connector for the IACV, probably need to use the throttle to keep it from stalling.
3) Adjust the idle screw (above TB bore) for about 450 or 500 rpm.
4) Plug IACV back in. Reset ECU. Start engine & let it idle (10 minultes??) without touching the throttle.

Some Hondas have a bleed screw; either at the thermostat housing (F-engines) or at the upper radiator hose nozzle (B-engines). Some years there isn't one, so you just have to squeeze the hoses to push air pockets towards the radiator cap.

I just bought a carb cleaner , should the tb be close(while engine is off) when i spray ? Or should i have the engine running and spray the carb cleaner while pulling the throttle cable , so the tb would be half open when i spray ?(thats what it say's on the can though)

I've only ever done that with the engine turned off. I'm sorta nervous about it running without the air cleaner, etc... I use that stuff on rags & Q-tips & wipe out the TB. Especially around the bore where the throttle plate closes. If it's really bad, take the TB off the car & spray that stuff around.
