I have a 99 civic with a GSR swap. When the car is on and my foot is off the clutch pedal there is a wierd noise coming from the tranny, When I put my foot on the clutch the noise stops. My dad says its the throw out bearing. I was wondering what will happen if I dont replace it? If I have to replace it how hard will it be to replace?

 

are you sure the tranny didn't come with a lightened flywheel. lightened flywheel will sound like there is marbles in the tranny when the clutch is not engaged. the sound goes away completely when the clutch is engaged.

 

The clutch and flywheel is a Competition Clutch O.E. spec clutch kit, The shop that did my swap was also suppose to replace the throwout bearing but I am not sure if they did.

What you described is exactly what is happening.

They either forgot to lube everything down there, or didn't even bother changing it at all.

Take the car back to the people who did the work and ask them about the noise. They have every reason to answer your question about the throwout bearing honestly.

It's your throwout bearing. It probably wasn't properly lubed. Unless you need to replace the clutch, I wouldn't bother.

 

Good. Why would it need to be lubed when its sealed? A few people I havew talked to said there is no point in lubing it. My dad said if the throwout bearing is not replaced it will eventually seize up the transmission.
