type r, h22a or b20 engine in gsr
Well its about the time when i turn 16 and for my first car im getting a 97 gsr. Im going to get a high mileage one and become a better driver with a stick and once i get a hold of it pretty well i will swap in a new engine. I know with the h22a there is a lot of extra that goes into the swap. Also i know that the type r engine costs a lot but i just want to know yalls opinion on which is the best to get and best to modify afterwords. Thanxs
Buy a spare GSR block, send it out and have it resleeved to 84.5 mm, just about a 2 liter. Still retaining stock rods and crank.

If you want an all-motor monster like dubster described, you could consider that. I'd probably just build the B18C1 you'd already have in the GS-R. Pull the motor and get a fresh hone, new pistons and rings, maybe some Type R or aftermarket cams with an upgraded valvetrain and computer and have fun. If you want a lot of power, consider a turbo kit like the Drag or Greddy units. Seeya.

You already have a great platform to start on, you don't need to swap in another motor, just build this one.

buy a lower milage ls and boost it later.
and don't drive like a douche bag. honestly I'm not talking smack, I don't know you. but a fast car can get away from you really quick. I just don't want you putting her in the ditch the first time you decide to get a little frisky.

why not put a B16a2/3 crank in your b18, with custom rods, and JE or some other aftermarket pistions, and have a screaming motor, get a set of skunk2 or Crower cams, upgrade the valve train, and an ITR trany..and you will have a bad ass setup. but if you want the most power possible..nothing beats displacement..and an H22 would be great for an FI engine, theres a kid where i live that had his h22 resleaved by golden eagle thats garunteed to 60psi...not that you can put that much power to the ground...but its the idea...hehe
Going to a b16 crank and custom rods isn't really necessary, you can use the stock rod length and crank of the GSR and get great numbers. I've seen GSRs resleeved to 84-85 mm to make it about a 2 liter, and they make great power. A good set of cams, springs and retainers, skunk2 manifold, high compression pistons, a good port & polish job, balanced rotating assembly, and you'll have an all motor monster. Check out dyno charts of 2.0L vtec motors here, http://www.importreview.com/d_2.0.html and see what kind of numbers you can put down.
