you can use either nonvtec or vtec pump and belt from a b18. if you use a nonvtec pump, you need a nonvtec belt. vtec pump vtec belt.

i would think if you got a vtec head you need a vtec distrubtor to use the vtec.

I think it would be worthwhile to go with a GS-R pump and belt. From what I've read, the two have to match, as snoopy said. The reason for this is the LS pump is geared differently and turns faster than the VTEC pump. The LS engine redlines at 7000 rpm so the pump is designed to work most efficently between those rpms (700 idle to 7000 redline). A GS-R pump turns slightly slower so that when it's spun to 8000-8500 rpm it's not turning so fast that it starts to cavitate and just churn rather than pump.

If you are building a VTEC motor, use the VTEC parts if u want it to last...
That was a nice explanation by Andy of why u should use VTEC pump...The water pump in the B18 was designed by the engineers to run at 7000 rpm max, anything after that and it could be bad.

Dude, he's talking about timing belt/waterpump. Anyway, the LS distributor doesn't fit the VTEC head, it only works if you cut one leg off of it because it doesn't clear the VTEC solenoid, and lastly, there is NO difference between the internal parts of the VTEC/non-VTEC distributors they're the same inside.

Back on topic, LS pump/LS belt, GSR pump/GSR belt, B16 pump/B16 Belt, all three are different.
