Default SRS Light stays on

I have a 96 Accord LX that all of the sudden the SRS light has come on and does not go off. Is this a common problem in these cars and is there anything I can do to check it or do I need to bring it to a dealer?

Since you have an OBD2 car, go to a place like Autozone and they will pull your problem code for free.

Well, I don't have an Accord Helms.... but in the 98 Integra Helms, the first suggestion is to check the underdash fusebox for the SRS system fuse (for an Integra it's the No. 23 (10A) fuse). If it's blown, replace. Then you need to erase that DTC memory. Disconnecting your battery for a few minutes may accomplish that, but I'm not sure. All my cars are OBD1.

Then if not the fuse, the other troubleshooting suggestions are checking for opens and shorts in the SRS wiring, but you really DON'T want to mess with that. You don't want to trigger your airbags by accident. That would be both dangerous and expensive for you... so it's well worth going to the dealership to have that checked out.

dont do anything else but go straight to the dealer and tell them ur problem. You dont wanna mess with the SRS. Could be just as simple as a bad sensor in which they'll throw on a diagnostic computer and find the error code.

^^^ A fuse is very safe to check for. The rest I agree with.

check on your drivers side door jam when the srs was installed. mine went off 10 years after installation.....which is when you are supposed to have it inspected...i think that might have something to do with it

Take to the dealer. My 94 civic had this at one point, I took it to the dealer and they fixed it free of charge
