ok, the 2nd top end style will work. buuuttttt, the spring catcher tips must be grinded to fit into the spring sides. you will probably bend the middle tips inward so they don't slide off of the retainer. This peice works with the head still installed. buuuutttttt, make sure you have a big magnet near the extraction point to catch the keepers. otherwise... bye - bye.
I say let the seals leak until you are prepared to do the entire motor. And since you commit to doing the entire motor then I suggest getting another motor and building that motor while daily driving the 1st motor. AAANNNNDDDD since you have elected to do a new motor then you might as well get a bigger engine and build the gooseshit out of it. AAANNNDDD since you will bedevil a bigger engine you might as well get a shell and drop the new motor into it and rip out the innards and ride - ride - ride.
OH, did I forget?? Get some sunglasses from 1958 - "black as a crow in a coal mine" (r. newman). Do you still have that acoustic stand up bass guitar? Pretend you sat in with "miles". Maybe your daddy played on one of them cool jazz standards from '55 - '56.
Maybe you should be conservative. Just buy the sunglasses, turn up the music, get a girl and keep pouring in the oil. You'll have moneyto take your girl to motel 6 $$$$$$$$$$$?????????!!!!!!!!!!! HAha.

some things in this world are just a little disturbing, aaaaannnnnddddd i hate putting a honda head back together. Josh, BTW the quickest and easiest way to remove the springs is with a hammer and extension on a pretty nice sized socket, maybe like a 5/8's or so, just put the socket/ extention over the valve, give it a nice lick and watch those keepers just fall right out, just perfectly, but i wouldnt do this with the head on, dont want those keepers to get lost in any oil passages. Just thought I would give ya a tip mang.

That is all fine and dandy but what would happen when it comes time to put the retainers back on? You are going to need a compressor eventually.

Westcoaststyle, did you get a quote from a shop yet?

I called but a machine answered. It was a DSM shop so they might have been out towing a car. :lmfao:

I'm going to try to find another shop. I don't need to wait to see if these guys are going to call me back. Kinda tells me that I'll be calling a lot to get them to actually do work for me to. I'll post results when I find out what it's going to cost me.

its astonishing that this isnt an obvious point, but why struggle with disassymbly if you do not have to?? It will take a skilled mechanic atleast 30 mins to disassymble where as a socket, hammer and extension can take it apart in 10 mins at the most and half of that time is packaging the spring and retainers seperate from each other and putting identification on them. Think about it, knowlege never hurts.
