Default lifter ticking?

i just reinstalled my head on my car, and now i have a horrible ticking sound. i had an exhaust leak beforehand, but not this bad and i swear this tick is in addition to the exhaust leak. i can smell oil as the car is running, but im out of ideas. any suggestions?

try doing a valve adjustment.
the ticking could also be your injectors....put a screw driver against one of the injectors and put your ear to the end of the screwdriver...see if you can narrow it down to where it's coming from.

On the topic of Valve adjustment...

I'm new to owning a Honda(91 Teg RS B18A). It ticks a little bit as well. Nothing out of control... but noticable. the car has 155,000 Miles on it and runs Great! No smoke and does not burn oil. Just has a minor tick to it. It is more annoying than anything. How do you go about adjusting the valves in a B series motor? Or should I just get a shop to do it? I am very mechanically inclined, But have never worked on a Honda. It has always been mazda's. And I have never had to do a valve adjustment on any other car.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

-Joe

Get a repair book from www.helminc.com - they're much better than the Chilton/Haynes books, especially if you're gonna do any serious work. With that book a valve adjustment is pretty easy.
