Mocking up a variable length intake
This is more for curiosity and experimentation than anything else.
What's the possibility of mocking up a variable intake length system to a Honda (D or B series)?
Like, fabricate a CAI like intake. Also get a short ram intake. Combine the two with a 2 to 1 Y tubing which is connected to the throttle body. Between the short ram and the Y, is some kind of a blocker like a butterfly throttle or something (like the exhaust cutout controller) controlled by some mechanism that opens the ram when RPM's are high (like use the VTEC as an activation signal).
The CAI gets the resonance benefits for midrange, and the ram opens up at the high end.

Sounds like a good idea but ultimately too much effort for not much HP. And I don't know if all that piping would fit under the already crammed hood of a Honda. But great thinking. :goodjob:
We think exactly alike!
I've had ideas just like that with the exhaust and the intake. But mine differs in that the car will sound and behave stock, but have relays that activate with the VTEC signal from the ECU that opens up electric plates to open up the intake or exhaust. They sell stuff here http://www.quicktimeperformance.com/QTEC/
Good luck and update us. I'm going to do this someday when I have the time and money. Should be easy though.
