Default What is Blueprinting/Balancing ? ? ?

Hi Everyone
Can someone please explain to me how does engine blueprinting or Balancing actually work ? ? ? I mean what are done to the engine during blueprinting or blalancing ? ? ? and what is the effect of it ? ? ? ?

ThankzZ

Blueprinting [also known as balancing] is when every rotating item in the lower end is [surprise] spin balanced to eliminate inherent vibrations. On some engines, the rotating assembly can be item balanced, where the crank is balanced seperate from everything, and then the crank pulley is balanced seperate, then the flywheel is balanced and then the pressure plate is balanced while the pistons and rod assemblies are brought to near-identical weights soas not to throw off the balance. The benefit of this process is that there is less energy [HP] wasted in creating vibration, and at the same time, there is less internal stresses generated in the crank, which leads to more reliability, less stress on the main bearings, and just a generally more sound tuning base to start from, whether you're after power or economy.

Blueprinting is a process of basically ensuring that the engine is built the way it is supposed to be built, and building the engine to tighter tolerances than originally done by the manufacturer

Balancing is basically balancing the rotating components in an engine to reduce vibration

There is no real difference in balancing and blueprinting besides the location of the person talking about it, or whether the shop doing the work wants to sound more impressive [b/c blueprinting actually sounds like you're doing something super special...]. The truth is that an engine being re-built has to be re-spec'd anyways, and so it's re-built to the specs you want, end of story. Going through the blueprinting/balancing process, you do that re-spec'ing of everything, and then make sure it doesn't shake itself apart, that's it.

OhzZ . . h:
I realise that its quite costly to do it . . Then issit worth the $$$ ? ? will it improve the performance Tremendously? ? ? ? does you all recommend engine balancing ? ? ? ?

ThankzZ

I will never rebuild a multi-cylinder car engine without balancing.

its not that expensive to do...if your rebuilding an engine..you can generally buy a rebuild kit thats already balanced...i know theres a stroker kit avail. through most major performance shops that offer any form of rebuilding services..

Oh Ok tHaNkzZ for the opinion
I'm very confuse because over here in Singapore, my friend spend $30000 Singapore dollar(estimated 1USD = 1.756SGD so 30000 SGD = 17079.00++) to blueprint his WRX STi So i think it cost a big big bomb over here to blueprint the engine . . . .

And one more thing is . . if let say i wanna rebuilt an engine . . lets say i order a custom rebuilt B20z from www.RandDmotorSports.com with a B16B head(built according to www.crvtec.com) and ask for a blueprint . . after its done and ship over to me . . can i still change the valve spring piston etc. ? ? ? And can someone please roughly quote the cost you people spend in getting your engine blueprinted ? ? ?

Sorry for irritating you all with these kind of question And thankzZ for all the replies
