Default Buying a Totalled Car

There's a totalled GSR for sale and the owner wants to get rid of it. The condition is that the buyer has to tow the car and pull the engine himself. So now I've got some questions for you guys:
1) How much of a hassle is it to tow a totalled car, pull the engine, then get rid of the chassis?
2) What's required in terms of DMV registration for the engine? I know it's not just simply buy a totalled car, swap the engines, then call it a day!
3) What papers will I need from the owner if I want the swap to pass BAR inspection to show that everything's clean (not stolen)?

Thanks in advance for any help!

in ohio thats all there is to it.. but if your somewhere that they inspect the serial number of your motor & what not. I would guess that as long as u had the paperwork to show that u bought the car with the vin that matched the motor u would bo ok. (i.e. title)

& as far as towing the car.. i don't think anybody on here can read minds & kno what the car looks like or if it has 4 wheels & tires on it to tell u that yes.. it will roll down the road while being towed! might want to post a pic or be a lil more descriptive.

& yes.. pulling a motor is a peice of cake.. your problems will probably come when your wanting it to run again after you've droped it into the other vehicle!

Thanks for the input! My main concern with the towing issue was how much it'll cost to get rid of the car after I pull the engine. But here's the car:

What do you guys think?

your best bet is to call a towing company and have them tow it to you house. As far as the title issue, contact a local junkyard and find out the policy on titles for totled cars.

Jesus, he's lucky to be alive. I personally would call a local notary or the DMV (whoever you visit in your state to transfer a title) and ask them. They can give you the best answer since their the one's who are going to file the paperwork. As for getting rid of the old chassis, try a couple of local junkyards and see if they'll take it to crush?

Here in VA, it's easy as pie.

1) Tow the car to your house. Rip out anything you want.
2) Call a local scrap yard to take it away.

No paperwork or anything. California is a totally different story though, they do some crazy stuff over there.

I would say just get another car, it would be a complete waste of money to replace all the damaged parts and put in a new motor...that one basically needs to be built in OverHauling or Monster Garage with the amount of work and money it will take to rebuild.

Did you actually read the thread? He's buying it for the engine and throwing away the rest.

Yea bro, it basically depends on where your from... In Louisiana (where im at), u could probably get Billy Bob Jimbo to come in with his big Ford 250, haul it home... Strip out the motor, and then call up a junk yard to come pick up the chasis... Over all, its a GSR motor... For $2700, maybe $300 shipping, and maybe $200 to dispose of it (if they even charge u)... So a GSR complete for $3200, not bad at all... Online theyd cost u that, plus shipping... Plus u know how many miles are on it...Plus youd still have some parts u could sell on eBay while stripping it...
