HELP w/ hooking up shiftlight to VTEC
I have a 92 civic with a single overhead cam vtec in it. I am unsure on how to hook up my shiftlight to the actual vtec. My buddy told me I didnt need the expensive 5" tachometer with the rpm, he said I could hook the shiftlight up to my rpm gauge from my gauge cluster. So I bought a seperate shiftlight for 50 bucks at jegs and am yet to hook it up. Can someone please help me out. Pics attached.
From my understanding, for the VTEC to kick in then you need to hook up a shiftlight (or tach) to the vtec cylunoid or something like that for it to work right. The shiflt light that I have has ajustable rpm to be set so that the shiftlight comes on and the vtec kicks in, so ive been told.

Some people hook up a LED or light to go on when the VTEC is activated...this is a VTEC light.
A shift light is part of some stock vehicles but it tells you when to shift for maximum fuel economy. In your case, and when you buy an aftermarket tach with shift light, you want it to tell you when to shift (so you dont have to look at the TACH, and can see the light out of the corner of your eye) for optimal performance (just before or at redline).
Again, two very different things...one has nothing to do with the other except they both light up to tell you something.
Yeah, you're pretty confused here.
For hybrid cars with VTEC engine swaps, an RPM switch needs to be wired in to activate VTEC if you didn't wire in the proper VTEC ECU.
For cars that come stock with a VTEC engine, you're wasting your time. You're just wiring in a fancy VTEC light. To do that, tap the power wire into the VTEC signal.
