yeah, i actually had the compression results in another thread that i think you had replied to. they were 220, 211, 216, 205 the first time, and the second time yielded a 196 on the cylinder that had 220 the first time. the engine seems to run fine other than the smoking. i had suspected that the headgasket may be bad because there is an external leak of oil and coolant, but i can't pinpoint where exactly it's coming from. it really looks to be coming from between the head and block, though. the smoke is definitely white, but i can't decide whether it's oil or coolant. it smells very slightly sweet, and it doesn't really smell like oil.

If it smells sweet its a head gasket. I had the same problem with my car and it turned out to be a cracked head a blown headgasket. Id check those and see what happens. But the beater would sound good right about now

don't drive it if you suspect the head gasket or you may warp the head.....get a HG from honda and see if it fixes it

Oh, ok. I remember now. I hate to tell you but it just might be a blown headgasket causing these problems. It is expensive or time consuming but it is the first step I would take. It sounds to me like the leak between the head and block and the white smoke is a headgasket gone bad.

yeah, it looks like i'm going to start looking for a new turbo and get a headgasket, timing belt, and water pump and do everything at once. thanks for the input.
