S.Bill, I really have to appologise,, after posting what I did about detonation and preignition in your engine without an EGR valve.. I was wrong,, I realized this, the next day at work, doing my duties as shop Forman at a Honda dealership as I have been for the past 24 years..The EGR circuit on your car,, being disabled,, will NOT creat any problems, that i Know of,, unless its 1996 or later, then the CEL light will come on.. I realised my mistake the next day,, the earlier Hondas,1989 and before will exibit detonation problems with out EGR working.. My appologies..Suggestion?? Ignore Kai's Post about Mazdas or any other cars EGR useage.. Kia might be a smart guy, but he out of his league here.. EGR is never actuated at Idle,, by no manufacture, EGR reduces NOX/ Nitrates of Oxygen that are created at cruise and slight accel, in your combustion chamber..Egr is disabled at Idle and full throttle ..

The EGR lowers the temp of the combustion chamber, resulting in less chance of detonation. So its possible to cause detonation by disabling the EGR. And you will throw a code for all years if you disable it.

Squee is correct,, I forgot to throw the most important part of this thread in.. I really have to appologise for my coment about Kai, it was uncalled for. I appologise Kai..I guess I was still in "work" mode .You see, I am a shop Forman and have been for many years at a honda dealership..I thought about my comment I made all day today, it was uncalled for..
