Default b16a vs b18c1??

What engine would be a better buy? I heard a b16a has a better intake setup or something... i was just wondering which one would be a better buy, i want a daily driver but i want to drag a little too... i thought maybe buying a b16 and save that almost extra $1,000 and save it for a turbo kit... please help me out here...

b18 gives you a good amount more torque. If you have the money I'd get the 1.8.

most places sell the b18c1 for 1000 more than a b16. for that difference, you can buy a b20 block and build a b20 vtec

nah. hybrid motors are a headache. IMHO, if you don't know how to build a B20VTEC, then it'll be a ***** to troubleshoot it when something goes wrong. depending on others to build a hybrid motor for you is a bad idea. you never know what kind of shortcuts other ppl take.

as for b16a v. b18c1... i had a b16a in my EH2. i loved it, but a lot of times i wished i just saved up for the b18c. if i had to do it again, i would have gotten a b18c5. it's totally worth the $ and motor just sings VTEC all the way to the speed traps. don't get me wrong, revving to 8200rpm with the B16A was great. I had the ITR intake manifold, AEM intake, DC SS headers, and Mugen exhaust. It was a great car, but it wasn't top notch. if you need to build it now, go with what you can manage. if you can wait, save up for a b18c5. it makes a world of a difference.

One question I'd like to ask is which engine has better tuning potential? I'm sure the b18c is a good engine, but how much does the aftermarket offer for each respective engines. Personally, I'm trying to decide between the two engines myself, and I'd rather avoid forced induction.

the b18c is the better of the two. essentially the aftermarket is identical as cams are interchangeable between the two. to make the most power.. most of the work is custom and not in an aftermarket bolt-on product.

i have a b16a3 packed with type r internals and it runs very hard. if were to do it over again i would get the b16 again and use the extra cash to build it. and a bonus is that b18c5 stuff can be bolted on the b16. but dont get me wrong, the b18c1 is a superb choice to run with. i just rather choose the b16 and work with it. and the b16 luvs to rev due to is .2 liters smaller then the 1.8.

With the money you spend on a b18c5 swap, you can have a BUILT GSR pushing a lot more hp than the type r. I would go with a GSR, the b16 doesn't have enough torque.

I'd take the B18C1. Considering you've got a 92-95 hatch. The b18c1 was designed for that car. You could get a hydro B16, but I think they are even more than $1000 cheaper than a GsR
