Default What does "Adaptive Transmission" mean?

I see the following term a lot:

"5-Speed Sequential SportShift(TM) Adaptive Manually Interactive Automatic Transmission With Overdrive"

Specifically, on the Acura TL's

What does that mean? Does anyone have a link with more information? I could not find any more details on it.

Thanks,
Chris

Sounds like to me that it's a fancy way of saying 5-speed automatic with manual sequential shifting mode. The adaptive part I would imagine is an electronic module that adjusts shift points with "driving style."

Don't know really. I suppose disconnecting your battery might do it.

No depending on how you race u r put into one of specific profile and car behaves accordingly....for example, if u push the pedal to the metal, car will change gears at redline, but if u just pushing it slowly then gears will change at 3rpm or before....

to reset it just drive is more aggressively. that worked with the 330i.

i used to slap it into the manual gear change mode (that puts it into sports mode) the shift would hold til redline and also downshift when braking and holds the gear so you can acclerate out of turns.

now i don't need to do it since I've started to drive a little more aggressively in the "auto" mode. the upshift are done at near or at redline depending on the throttle position, etc.
