Default Ahh..screeching!!

Alright well, i was driving to work and this asshole in a dodge ram was right on my ass..so i basically gunned it in 2nd to get away and my car felt like it wasnt moving as fast as it should..i thought that was pretty strange. Anyways, once i got to work i downshifted once entering the parking lot and a LOUD screeching noise occurs..wtf! So i put it in neutral and it happens again as my car begins too slow down to a stop. The alternator belt is tight..i dont have ac or ps..what could it be?? Could it be a bad crank pulley? How bout the timing belt? Or does it have something to do with my tranny? Help please..

So this is a sound that occurrs while the car is rolling. It happens with the transmission in neutral.

Does it happen while the car is in gear and you're braking using the engine?

Does it happen in all gears? If not, which ones?

Do you hear noise when you hit the brakes?

Does the car make the sound at a specific temperature? For example, does it make the noise after it's warmed up? Or all the time? Or some other time?

It's doubtful that the timing belt will screech if it's under the cover. Timing belts will make a flapping sound if they're loose and hitting the cover.

Is it a screech like a brake screech, where it's very high pitched and constant? Or is it a screech that sounds like a buzzing or whirring sound? See if you can track down these answers, and we'll go from there.

-yeah happens sometimes when i pull from a light in 1st gear and sometimes when i downshift
-mostly happens in 1st and when i downshift to 3rd and 2nd
-only makes the noise sometimes when i brake and the rpms drop close to 1k
-it makes it when i turn on my car to warm up and when its still a lil cold when i pull off..doesnt make it as much when ive been driving for awhile
-its not a brake screech sound...it sounds like a belt rubbing against something and SCREAMING. its very loud

Does it happen at certain throttle positions? For example, when you're coming off of a stop light, does the screech start at a certain throttle position? Can you make the noise go away by changing the throttle position?

If any of those questions are "yes", try turning your throttle body idle screw inward about one full turn, and then back out about half a turn. Then gob some silicone into the screw to hold it.

You're sure it's not a loose belt? Have you tried tightening the alternator belt? Have you tried removing the alternator belt and driving a short distance (dont drive far, you'll drain the battery)? Have you tensioned the timing belt?

Try those options. When you say it's a screaming sound, does it sound like it's coming from one side of the engine bay? Or is it hard to locate?

ill find out about the throttle thing but how could my tb idle screw cause that?? im sure its not a loose belt cause we checked the alternator belt and i havent messed with a timing belt b4 so i wouldnt know about the tensioning. my friend said the sound sounds like its coming from the crank pulley but i dont know for sure..ill probably turn it on today and try to find out

its prolly a belt loose check your belts and tighten it up if needed it prolly came loose from when you gunned it. you prolly didn't have all your bolts tightened properly

Have you tried just replacing the belt? No other belts? No ac or power steering? This may sound wierd but it does work, take some WD40 and while the car is running spray a little bit on the belt and then drive it this will help dampen the noise. It could also be a bearing in the alternator. Don't know without hearing it but just thought I would throw some more ideas out.
