Default engine swap advice

hey all,
i have a 94 civic EX with a dead engine, i'd like to get it running again as cheaply as possible. the factory engine is the D16Z6 and i know the D15B is considered a direct swap. are there any other engines that would be considered a direct swap? could i install a D16Y7 for instance? i know the ecu would have to be changed if i did that, anything else have to be changed? i'm not looking for performance here, just to get this car running cheaply again.

also if you have any sources for a good deal on any of these engines please let me know. thanks.

you can find those engines fairly cheap over the net- try total-boost.com or just go to search and type in swap. there are alot of direct bolt in motors. if you wanted to, you could spend a wee bit more and go for the b16-but that is just a suggestion. but when you find a motor, do a little research first and make sure the place your buying from is a reliable source and not just looking to get a quick buck. DO NOT BUY MOTORS ON EBAY

thanks for the comments guys, 4thgenlude i totally understand what you mean about not getting the cheapest one, unfortunately my budget is really tight. i've considered the b18b1, but i'll be doing this swap by myself and i've heard there are a few parts (like the motor mounts) that can get tricky with these engines.

importautosalvage.com might be a good place to look for a motor. Most of the d-series will be a direct swap. I'd stick to the 92-95 generation to make your life simpler.

i just swapped a b18b (not b18b1) into my civic and there is nothing trickey about it at all. but make sure it has a USDM harness on it or the plugs wont mach up. if you want vtec a b16a2 will olny cost you about another $50
