Default 93 hatch, B20, CTR header, Tanabe cat-back... how will I connect 'em???

The title covers it. I am putting a B20 in to my hatch this weekend. I have a CTR header that I am going to throw on there. And I have the Tanabe Super Racing Medallion cat-back (civic hatch application) that I will be putting on there as well. The thing is, the CTR header obviously has the 2.5" collector, while the Tanabe piping is not 2.5" (I don't even know what it is, 2.25", 2.3"?), so how will I go about connecting the two? Whether it be a high-flow cat or a test pipe, it doesn't matter. But who makes what I need?? Carsound, Random Tech, or should I go custom?? And where can I get it ASAP. Any and all help appreciated people, thanks.

im sure carsound makes a cat with 2.5 inlet and 2.25 outlet. you can try www.ipsracing.com or go to honda-tech and pm user SMSP for info.

Any real muffler shop can make you a test pipe to connnect the 2 pieces, but it will most likely be made of 2 1/4" piping to connect smoothly to the exhaust's B-pipe (your Tanabe most likely is 2 1/4"). Are you planning to eventually upgrade to a VTEC head or upgrade the cams in that thing? A CTR header might be a bit overkill for a stock B20.

Well, I checked in to it and the Tanabe piping is 60mm (2.36"). So that makes a difference of just 1.4", which I'm sure will be covered by the flanges themselves. And I have spoken with my guy doing the swap, and he said he can/will fabricate a test pipe to mate them, so that problem is as good as solved (I hope). So your thinking a CTR header is overkill on a B20? Why is that? And I am just using that header because I got a very good deal on it, but it will be put to an LS block that I am building on the side (for F/I).

I really don't think the B16B header will work on that motor. The B16 block is shorter than the B18 therefore not allowing the header to wrap completely around the motor... it's not tall enough. I have personal experience trying to put a B16 DC header on my B18.. no go.. had to sell it.

Have you test fitted the header on the motor?

You are correct, for the most part. B16 application headers CANNOT fit B18's normally. But the B16b is the exception. The CTR has the same deck heighth as a B18, so the header will (or let me say SHOULD) fit exactly like a B18 header.

And I will be test fitting the header in just a couple of hours just to make sure.

haha... :chuckles:

Did I scare you?

That's an interesting fact, thanks for pointing it out. Please post the results of your test when you complete it. I just want to be sure that I have the correct info for the future.

Hahaha, yea, you did scare me. I had forgotten that point when I bought the damn thing, and I got all pissed off at myself. But when of my boyz reminded me that the CTR deck height is the same as its B18 brother so it should fit. In fact, I believe the CTR and ITR header are the same thing (somebody correct me if I am wrong here). And people pay BANK for the ITR header and heatshield, and I paid next to nothing for my CTR header w/ heatshield. I just couldn't pass up the deal. It was such a good deal, that like I said earlier, I straight up forgot to remember if it would fit or not.

You forgot to remember? :chuckles:

Gotta love it when you get hookups that most people are unaware of.

Your build looks good man. Any plans for boost?
