Outer CV Boots
1993 honda civic... Anyone know how to replace the outer cv boots on these cars? Do you need to use a split boot? I'm confused and can't figure it out.
It seems that in order to replace one you have to replace both or am I mistaken on this? And if that is so I don't have the money to replace the inner ones at this moment, so do you think it would be possible to cut the new ones to make a split boot and stick it on this way?

You need to take the axles off the car and take the inner joints apart to slide the boots off the shaft. You can re-use the inner boots if you want to (check for any cracks or tears in the rubber). It's a very messy job. If the axles have started to click, replace them. The split boots you can buy don't work too well. Splitting a boot yourself will probably never work.
From what I understand the boots cost just about as much as axle replacements do.
NAPA sells replacements for ~$60/ea + core and they have a no questions asked lifetime replacement on them. It's so much easier to replace the entire axle than it is to replace boots.. imo.
