So which way does it spin?

The starter, cam profiles, ignition timing, etc.
It is very difficult, to say the least, to reverse an engine. There have been a few race teams that have converted H22A's to spin "backwards" to work with normal racing transaxles, though.
It's not something Joe Average can do in his driveway, if that's what you are getting at. If you did reverse it, you would have five speeds of reverse and only one of forward. I don't know about you, but running 90 miles per hour backwards down the highway doesn't sound like much fun.

Youre thinking so...one dimensionally. The idea is to use it in a RWD configuration. But to be honest, I dont think I would need to reverse it for this one specific application, as I think the RWD engine that is already in the car spins in the same direction(counter-clockwise) as a Honda engine.

Im trying to come up with an engine solution for my 944. I was thinking of replacing the Porsche engine(anemic 2.5L N/A I4 that only makes 150hp and is hard and expensive as hell to work on/fix) with something else like maybe an H22A or something like a 13BT or a KA24DE.

Get the huge aspirated 3.0L four for the Porsche that makes 210 hp. It was the sweetest engine available other than the turbo 2.5L. The only problem is that there aren't many 3.0Ls around, as they were only made in 89-91. Great torque band, though, and much more reliable than the turbo.

You could always use a good 'ole Chevy smallblock. There is a company that makes mount kits for them for a few different Porsche bodies.

Just so you know, if you ever show up at a Porsche meet with a Chevy or Mazda engine, you will be shunned or banned outright. Porsche owners HATE people who put non-Porsche engines in; in one of the Porsche Club of American bulletins (I steal them from my uncle) they talk about how they kicked out some guy who put a turbo Eclipse engine in his 914. Real purists, the Porsche bunch. Of course, they need to explain why they made a 150hp engine
On the other hand, there is probably a club of swapped Porsche owners somewhere...

Well, I can see why they would shun people who do engine swaps...look how the 356/911/914 purists treat us 924/928/944/968 guys.
The 3.0L you speak of only came in the 968. The 944 and 951's used 2.5 and 2.7L engines. And the explaination is simple really. In 1985, what was the average power out-put of other 4 cylinder engines? I bet the 944 was right on top.

They may be shunned by the Porsche crowd, but I would welcome a 13B Porsche into any Mazda club.
I would assume the same would go for a smallblock.
When people swap non-Rotaries into RX-7's, they are shunned the exact same way. Seeing a smallblock or a 7MGTE In an RX is a real heartbreaker.

UrbanFuturistic, the 3.0L **was** available in the 944.
From '89 to '91 the 208hp 3.0L was available in the S2 coupe, which had the styling of the turbo. The base coupe was bumped to 2.7L, 162hp. I guarantee this car exists, I've seen them with my own eyes, and my uncle has worked on several of them.
The 968 didn't appear until 1992, after the demise of the 944.
