Default funny braking noise

I would appreciate any advice anyone could give me. When I am braking, I hear a distinct hissing/echoing sound in throughout my car. I am sure it is the brake system, as it only occurs while braking, but I cannot tell if it is coming from the front or the rear. It is not a screeching that would indicate low pads, and I checked the pads in front...They seem fine. It also does not sound like the pads scraping the rotors. Could this be a fluid problem? Please advise. Thanks all.

i know that there is this stuff i think its stopsquil(spellcheck) or some thing that mechanics will put on brake pads to keep them from making noise. this is so a customer doesnt hear the noise and freak out bring it back to the shop trying to get it fixed when theres nothing wrong and they dont want the customer to think that they did a bad job and go elsewhere next brakejob. try some brake cleaner and go to the local parts store and ask them what product will end the noise. and if you had you brakes done by a professional take it back to them and they will fix it. it might not seem like the right thing to do but make a big deal about it and they will fix it.

It could also be the pads you used. Parts-store high-metallic pads are prone to squealing at low wheel speed, and a high performance carbon-metallic pad will often make a humming sound, for example.

If you've got plenty of pad material and you're not hearing the typical high-pitched screech that brakes tend to make, start with the stop-squeal stuff mentioned above. If that doesn't help, it's most likely the brake pad material. It just happens to make a tone while it's rubbing against the rotor.

Hissing or echoing could have something to do with the vaccuum powered braking assist system. Brake-booster, and vacuum lines, mounted on the firewall.
