Default When to spray?

At what point, meaning what gear, rpm, etc. would be the most ideal time to hit the nitrous, assuming that it is a lightly modified engine with a stock tranny. And please dont say "when your A-- is being handed to you" that doesnt help me much... thanks

I spray from first gear to fourth gear and even at launch...

If your car is lowered and you have stock axles and are shooting a decent amount of nitrous 100+ shot of n20, it might not be a good idea to shoot it off the line... I can just see axles snapping.

Just shoot the nitrous when you KNOW you've got traction and then just every gear and from then until redline... just an FYI, slicks are very helpful at the track

Depends on the car. Here's a few different examples of what my friends have done. I'm also researching the topic... I'm about to put a 75-100 shot on my VR6.

LS1 firebird.
He doesn't spray off the line, but it kicks on at WOT and 3800+ RPM. Needs slicks to keep from spinning. His friend sprays off the line, but a bogging mishap with a wet shot caused the fuel and NO2 to back into his intake manifold... kaboom.

H23 prelude
Just uses it as a boost in 3rd... he hates his 3rd gear.

-I'll probably use it at the top of 2nd and through 3rd, since I have tall gearing and the torque drops off fairly fast above 5000 rpm (7k redline) in stock form. It all depends on your car.

I'd get it dyno'ed. Look at your torque curve, and make decisions from there. I don't recommend first gear (unless you're wearing Mickey T's slicks like the LS1) since you'll likely just spin. Other than that, treat it like a "instant turbo"... only spraying at high RPM.

*-* Be sure your safety systems are working. 1st lean condition on a sprayed motor = boom. Set your cut-out limiter a safe distance from your redline, so you don't bounce off the rev limiter while under nitro. Respect it, and you'll love it.

you SHOULD only spray above 4000 rpm or so. WOT.

Get a window switch and set it to 4000 rpm to 300 rpm short of fuel cutoff, and have it activate on WOT.

Hey guys, thanks a lot, those were definatly the kind of answers I was looking for and they help out a lot, Im probably going to be running a 50-75 shot in my civic and I like senseiturtle's friend HATE my third gear, it has the most torpue, but it doesnt have the "get up and go" power as the other 4. 5th is also a little slow. thanks a lot, and feel free to "whore" my thread, its totally cool, I get as much info from your questions as from my own. thanks a lot guys and if you have more to add, please do

I spray right I soon as I launch. I don't launch with it armed, but as soon as it grabs I hit the switch and run it all the way to 4th
