Default How can you "kill yourself"?

How come I keep reading about people freaking out about possibly killing yourself when replacing your springs/shocks? I did mine a couple years ago without a spring compressor...stepped one foot on it while on the ground and loosened the nut on the top of the strut. Yea the nut shot off a little but it wasnt that big of a deal, just pointed it at the garage wall. I dont see why people even use spring compressors with hondas? I read a post where some guy claimed the spring shot across the street.....what a crock.

Some OEM springs are about 4 inches taller than they are on the shock... So when u take off the nut, it will pop off, and possibly hit u... And if its compressed, 4 inches, thats alot of pressure... Its not worth the risk... Just use a spring compressor!

Yea you should probably use the spring compressor like "EXEMPT" said above, but I still think its not that dangerous without one if you are smart about it.

Don't be dumb. Rent the part from autozone for free and avoid killing/hurting/maiming/decapitating/etc. yourself over springs.

I read in one of these import mags..... place the spring in between two of your tires( remove them from the car of course) while removing the bolt,.. and let them do all the catching of any force.
Sounds good to me.

Thats how we do it here! bolts wont fly out...tires will reduce the force...works everytime...but to be safe, get a spring compressor!
