I have Llumar tint and i'm pretty happy with them. You probably should have them done professionally so you get the lifetime warranty and so you don't accidentally screw up and have to buy more tint. The rear window doesn't look too easy. You gotta squeege out the air bubbles between the defroster lines and everything and it's one huge sheet. But if you're pretty confident you can do it yourself, go for it.

I did the first set (Kragen) myself and I had no bubbles. It lasted 8 years now (except the fading). The rear glass I had to cut into strips (along the defrost lines, cut from outside the glass). The trick was to make sure to start squeegeeing from one side to the other, not from center out.

I admit, that professionals can do a better job because at the "dots" at the side is impossible to get totally flush.

Anyways, I just bought the Llumar... thanks for the feedback.

i used to detail cars.when they would send a car for me to detail that had tints we had to remove them.we used heavy duty glass cleaner, and a razor driver, and peeled it off slowly.

Ok, now I'm finally getting to put the new tint on. I got Llumar precut off ebay and it fits really well. For the "fingers" (long bubbles due to curvature of the glass), I use my wife's embossing hot air gun which works really well.

I have a Porshe 944 and I had illegal tint to remove. My friend (shop foreman for Mercedes) told me to use simple green (spray bottle 3/4 water to 1/4 simple green).

Park car directly in the hot sun.

Spray simple green on the inside of the window (make sure all windows are up).

Place saran wrap (over the simple green spray) on the windows and make sure it sticks. Cover the whole surface. Wait 2 hours or so.

In one instance when I went out to the hatchback, the tint had fallen off of the middle of the window.

Works like mad.

Damn, which I woulda read this before I removed my front window illegal tints a couple months ago. Instead of just scrapping them off and cleaning all the residue. What a pain.

I HATE removing tint.

I have a question too. I removed the tint off my back window with a razor blade. I was trying to be careful not to cut the defroster, but just like anyone, I cut a few places. Will these areas still defrost? The copper is still on the bare patches, but not the dark stuff.

^ sounds like it might, there's a pen you can get that repleneshes the defroster, sorta like a conductive paint pen. many threads here mention I believe, a friend used it and it worked well.

Well that's damn nice to hear! I am instantly reassured. I actually work at ana electronics shop, so I might want to take one of those things home with me next time I'm there. They're really cool to have around too. Must make using breadboards a snap.
