shaving emblems is easy.

1.) remove emblem
2.)there maybe some sort of rubber insert in the holes that the emblems mounts into. remove that rubber.
3.) sand the area beneath the original emblem down to the bare metal.
4.) take screw driver and hammer and knock that are down so it isn't as flush as the rest of the hood or whatever it is that you are shaving.
5.) take fiberglass mat and resin/hardner mix.
6.) cut the mat into shape of the dent
7.) dip the mat into the resin/hardner mixture.
8.) apply the fiberglass mat over dent.
9.) let it dry and if more fiberglass is required to get the area flush apply more fiberglass in the same way.
10.) sand the fiberglass so it's pretty smooth with the metal.
11.) if you are happy with the flushness, whip out the good ol' bondo.
12.) if you did the fiberglass part well, you'll need very little bondo.
13.)mix up the bondo (a good mix is when bondo is just a light shade of pink)
14.) apply the bondo where needed (to get it smooth as possible.)
15.) start sanding.
16.)keeping applying and sanding until it's smooth. when doing body work feel the area. if you can't feel a ridge or bump going from the metal to the bondo, it's getting good.
17.) up the grit of sand paper and keep going up till it's smooth and you can't tell if it's metal or bondo you are going over.
18.) primer it up
19.) paint it up.

Emblems are easy to do. May take you an hour or two the first time, but after you've done it. I've seen 'em shaved perfectly in 20 - 30 mins.

Integra side moldings can be done in the same way. As wel las the accord side moldings.

Civic side modlings, BAH! Leave 'em on there. not worth the hassle.

Shaving door handles requires you to weld because of the side of the hole left when you remove the door handles.

As for shaving lince plate frames. Antenna's small enough to use fiberglass. did my antenna in that way.

You do not need to use fiberglass All you have to use is bondo. I know because I just shaved my emblem today. What you said to do will take WAY TOO LONG. That is just doing something that you don't need to do.

ya, and wait 'til your bondo cracks and chips away...fiberglass is a better way to do it, but really the right way would be with metal and to weld it then grind it down.

correct...metal and a grinder is the only real way to shave car properly.....you have to be very good with a welder though as not to warp the thin metal.

second to welding, I would use the method mentioned above using fiberglass base with a thin bondo layer to smooth out.....

you'd wanna use metal when covering up a huge hole.

you are filling up two tiny holes. fiberglassing is the method of choice on shaving emblems and antenna's.

you do know they drill into sheet metal sometimes when they pull huge dents.

do you think they go back and weld up the tiny little holes? nope, they just use bondo.

and dawrenn, you are right you can use just a little bondo.

but when shaving windshield washer squirters and antenna's. you'll need to fiberglass to fix up the dents.

you also have to understand what causes bondo to crack is water getting to the bondo.

so having a layer of fiberglass underneath is gonna make cracks less likely.

there are plenty of ways to do one thing.

okay, so we are trying to finish shaving the H on my friends accord. we put mesh behind and bondo'ed. primered but when painting (gloss black) we cannot get the surface smooth. everytime we try to lightly sand, we just go through the paint and end up at the primer. if we do too thick then its way higher than the factory paint. the mess just keeps getting bigger and bigger. plz help, thx

get it perfectly smooth before you even paint it.

and your grit of sand paper is too high. 800, 1000, 1200 grit and paper.

feel the 1200 grit sand paper it feels like your thumb. get it perfect before you paint.

I have a 97 dx coupe and I want to shave off the DX emblem and possibly the civic emblem. Are there any holes or anything behind those? I don't want to sand and primer and fill and paint, just remove them easily and have it look clean but if I have to do all that because there is a hole or a peg behind them then screw it.
