Default Basic maintenance: What should I use?

I'm about to do some basic maintenance (oil, plugs, wires, etc) on a 2000 Honda Civic SE that I recently bought. This brought me to a few questions. Currently the car has around 70k miles on it. I have no clue of the maintenance history. The current oil looks clean (guess I can thank the dealer for one thing).

1) What is the preferred oil for the 1.6L I4 motor? I'm guessing Mobil 1 Synthetic would be a good choice?
2) How about oil filter? I try to stay away from fram and some of the other infamous brands.
3) Spark plugs?
4) Spark plug wires?
5) Front brake pads?
6) Coil? Is it even necessary to replace this? If I need to replace it, is it as simple as popping off the distributor, pulling out the old one and placing in the new one?

TIA.

for plugs and plug wires go with ngk, either platinum or copper; i've heard both are great

edit: you should also pick up a haynes/helms manual.. cuz according to my dad, "your first mod should be the book"
i know my haynes has quite a large section on maintenance

hey zivicase- is the helms specifically for the 96-00 civic? cuz my haynes actually covers the 96-00 civic, some tegs, and some crv's all in one book which is kinda not cool but it still provides all the info i need
