Default how to make paint stick on a mesh?

tried making the diy mugen grill, but the paint wont stick, even after a layer of primer, in fact, even the primer came off. used some home depot gutter guard mesh... anyone has any clue how to make the paint stick?

ez. rough up the mesh with some steel wool. Primer with flexible bumper primer. Paint in thin coats.

Spray it with adhesion promoter first.

1. steel wool
2. flexible bumper primer
3. adhesion promoter
4. thin coats

and recommend any brand names?

Then after the thin coats of paint make sure you spray some clear coat also, and a lot of it, so paint wont chip off when something like a rock hits the grill.
