Default Ls-Vtec Horsepower Question?

I'm in the middle stages of swapping an Ls-Vtec hybrid into my 89 4door. I keep getting conflicting reports on how much HP I'll be pushing when it's done. The block is from a 92 B18a, and the head is a B16a. So around how much HP will I be producing??? Any help will be much appreciated.

If it is a stock B16A head on a stock B18A block, you MUST stay under the factory redline for the block, in this case around 6,7k RPM. With that rev cap, expect no more then 155 flywheel hp. If you built up the block (rods and girdle) and the head (new valve springs) you should be good for 7.5k-8k RPM where you would run on the order of 170-180 flywheel. Built engines have been reported over 200hp with the addition of I/H/E, cams, cam gears, and P73 (Type R) pistons.

Yeah, I've been told to keep it at a low rpm, beacause of the LS blocks low rod ratio. But I'll be replacing those rods in no time soon, for something with a ratio closer to about 1.77:1. Thanx a lot for the info man. Oh, and I paid 600 for the b16 head, altogether, I'm paying about 2 grand to get the whole thing put in.

The only way to better the ratio is to use a different block, crank and rods (B16A shortblock) or have a deck plate welded on (which requires new custom cylinders, $$$).

You know an entire B16 longblock is only worth around $500, right? The head shouldn't cost more then $300.
