Default sohc vtec vs. zc

Both of these swapped in a crx and both stock which one would be faster? And which one responds better to mods?

I'd go w/the ZC. It's a little more beefier. 9 times out of 10, 2 cams are better then 1.

yah the sohc vtec engines from civic ex's only put out 120-130 hp and are pretty maxed out as far as engine potential, the zc is a sturdier platform to work from in my opinion, but the sohc vtec does have alot of after market parts.

pretty maxed out as far as engine potential? wtf are you talking about?!?!?!?! and it puts out 125 for 5spd and 130 for auto for the D16z6, stock probably ZC, little mods, Z6. both can be build for speed... Z6 has more parts like you said. both are good engines, both are Honda engines. its up to you.

If it was up to me, I would go ZC because a DOHC engine looks meaner then a SOHC:chuckles:

But really, I would stick with the DOHC ZC engine for all the classic reasons that 2 is better then 1 in this case. Of course, this is assuming you are talking about the DOHC black cover ZC vs D16Z6, not the SOHC VTEC ZC vs D16Z6, because the second two are vitually identical.

I've got both, a crx with a zc and a 4dr civic with a mini-me d15z6(but I guess that doesn't really count) but I'd half to say go a sohc since there's mad parts out there and the zc is a aging platform plus there's so many leftover sohc vtec from people doing swaps if your goes kablooey you can find 'em pretty easily and cheap. The zc is nice but harder and harder to find parts for.

ZC's aren't that hard to find parts for. ONce again, I have to say that's hogwash.

What about the D16y8? Is that any good? I was thinking about fitting that into my GF's 91 Civic Dx if it would fit. Plus Edelbrock just came out with a turbo kit for that engine.

ZC Parts, a couple places make forged pistons and rods for them, you can send your stock cams to Delta and they will make them any lift and duration you want for like $95. Parts can be had for it but you just have to look harder.
