ok im getting really tired of all the problems im having with my car, if anyone else has these problems let me know cuz its really making me dislike my car. my starter keeps breaking off the transmission, i don't mean the gears burn off or it stops working, i mean the areas around the bolts of the starter snap completely off and the starter just falls right out once those break off. could the flywheel ring gear put so much pressure on the starter gear that it snaps the metal like that? at first i thought maybe i just cranked the bolts too tight and it caused too much tension and they snapped but this is the 2nd time the whole thing snaps off, i'm saying F*it now and i'm just gonna j-b weld the sucker back together and throw it on there but really has this ever happened to neone before? cuz its becoming a big problem and ive spent 300 dollars on 2 starters already this year, and i guess my warrantee doesnt cover damage like that where the whole side bolt is torn off of the starter.

short hand story. i turn my car on and hear it start to crank and come to an immediate stop (not like turning off ur car but like the starter stopping it) IMMEDIATELY and it did this twice and then i hear a nice horrible sound and then the starter spinning away cuz its ripped itself away from the transmission. why would it do that? why would it break? the nose of teh starter isnt stuck out or nething? its brand new and the 2nd one this has happened too i'm thinking of getting an all new flywheel and starter but not if this'll keep happening, then i'll say F* all of it and get a whole new transmission

 

I don't get it, it it broke off the tranny wouldn't your tranny have a massive piece missing thus making it scrap metal?

 

he means the holes that the bolts go through, the metal around the bolts. it sounds like it is snapping off the starter solenoid. thats really weird.

dunno what that has to do with the flywheel...unless he means the assembly around the block.

 

Maybe the threads are stripped or something.

 

sounds like serious vibration issues? could motor mounts or a lack of shims cause this ?

 

i mean the starter has the 2 bolts around the sides of the whole assembly the metal (if that is actually metal) is tearing apart around the bolts the bolts are still attached with the sides of the starter the whole functional part of the starter is left falling out, motor mounts are fine, no major vibrations that i can tell of. i'm thinking possibly the flywheel ring gear is jacked and is causing serious pressure against the starter when its actuated and causes the whole thing to rip off the transmission block

 

well i remember my mechanic telling me on a cutlass starter replacement to be "very careful if there were shims, that they were reinstalled"

if that shit is binding there is no limit to the damage it could do thats the only thing i can think of...but damn, this isnt that old of a car.

 

the tranny has the starter hole with the 2 holes for the bolts to connect the starter, when it breaks off the hole is fine bolts are still attached and the starter no longer is connected to the sides that the bolts are holding, the starter gear and starter sylenoid are still together as one fuctional unit just the side mounting peices are sheered off somehow???? any clue how? or why this happens multiple times?any suggestions at all regardless of how insane appreciated

 

i have the next 2 days off work so im gonna pull the engine again and get a good look at it, spin the flywheel around check the ring gear for any damage but i just did this and saw none, threads arent stripped as of a week ago but ill check again, maybe when i get it all apart again ill come up with more clues to my problems ill keep u guys posted in the mean time let me know if u know nething

 

is your pinion stopper installed?
