keeps cutting off

my friend has got a 85 crx and every time he cranks it up it idles down and then cuts off does ant1 knpo wat that could be

does the car have a engine and ecu swap over 1998? if not if the car can crank but not hold, check to see if your ignition wire is giving power. Ignition must be on to allow the car running.
