Default What motor should i use?

I have a 91 hatch with a B16A and 92 ls trans. The tranny is about to puke. I called gear speed and for carbon coated syncros, new seals and bearings $1600 or $2250 with Quaife diff. I would like to go through the motor and get 200 whp. Its about $2500. Or should i go with a B18C5. I'm afraid of getting a shitty tranny with the B18C5. Any opinions would be appreciated. Thanks

buy a b18c1 block, slap the b16 head on there, and go from there. you can find a used cable b16 tranny for pretty cheap too.

Buy a LS block, and a YS1 tranny.

You can get them for under 800$ shipped.

intersting i make a little over 200 at the wheels and my tranny is golden its a ls. with a welded diff. guy i race with has a eg thats at 314 and same ls tranny and clutch no problems, i say ls tranny. well if you get a tranny with the b18c hell go with it. ans for the motor, is it going to stay NA then bigger is always better as in digger displacement.

bigger is always better for BIGGER hp...displacement ultimately is the limiting factor to making power

snoopy, you didn't.....

in stock form the b18c1 p72 head will out-perform the b16's PR3

the only pr3 head to oust a p72 head is the one found on the type-r, and thats just because it's ported like whoa.

i suggest you buy a b18c1-- put in some high comp pistons with a good port job... you could bore it out, but for price reasons i'd suggest just going with the current bore.

use some low/high rpm range cams and use the b18's tranny-- you can then tune it and you should come out with about 190+whp on 93, but be warned that the number may be hard to hit with the 1.8L displacement.

he already has a b16. it's cheaper to just get a b18c block and slap the b16 head on there. you dont have to remind me about the different heads.

i thought you told him to buy the c1, yes you are correct.

though for his application it would probably be better going with a ported p72 head to get the most out of the engine regardless.

if you were going to suggest a block to make around 200 horse it must be said that it's probably even cheaper to go ls/vtec, because he'll have to contend with replacing the pistons for compression and rod bolts for the high revs regardless... the only thing he'd have to worry about is getting the oil to the head, which is easy enough compared to what else is being done...
