Id probably just wait for a 2G... Specially if you want to mod it and if its your first Honda... But is it worth it, probably... But we'd need more info...

i'd wait for a 88+ the first gen's arent easily modded, and unless this will be a rebuild to stock spec you are doing i'd wait for a 88+

the car is at least 20 years old and will most likel need a new motor eventually, even if it is a honda. the 88's on will give you an easier time putting in a newer or even more commonly foudn engine intot he chasis, wasting less time and money in the long run.

84-87 Civics are great cars for scooting around town. If it is an Si with little body rust, $850 is OK. If it is a carburated base, DX, or LX model, don't pay that much unless it runs perfect and has a solid body.
