timing belt
The same happened to me, but after I replaced my belt, the engine turned over and started fine, it even idled good! But the car did not run too good though. I had to advance the timing all the way, so I could drive it to my garage. I'm in the process of taking the head out, I'm pretty sure that a lot of the valve are bent.
The same might have happened to your valves, only worse. Enough where the engine doesn't start, because of very low compression...

Yup if the belt snaps you might be looking at major damage. My belt hasn't snapped....yet... but the valves chatter in cold weather. I was thinking of regrinding the head and valves when I change the belt. Any links worth following on this?
