Default Vtec problem

On my 2nd gen b16 the vtec didnt work at all for like acouple of weeks after the swap and out of nowhere it kicked in at 6k rpm instead of the 5.2 i thought it was sposed to. I tried it again and it wouldn't kick in again.lt comes and goes now and I bought a new pw0 ecu since the old one didnt work well and now when the vtec kicks in ever so often at 5.5-6k it feels like i'm hitting my brakes. Weird, any suggestions?

Thank you

Oil level would be my first thought also.

Then, check the VTEC solenoid for function.

From there, you'll have to start checking wires. Since VTEC has to be wired in to work in these older cars, wiring screw-ups are very common.

The oil level's good, and I made sure the engines warm.
I'll start tracing the wires.
Thanks

The vtec still hits between 5.5 and 6k rpm but now it feels like it should, why maybe is it kicking in so late?
