Default Headgasket Question

Well, I don't think I need a new HeadGasket, but I have smoke outa my exhaust when i rev it. I am pretty sure it is piston rings, but when I was workin on my car, I looked down and noticed that there was like stuff around the headgasket, like it sorta looked wet. It had someoil on it along with myabe a tad of water.
How do I check to see if my headgasket is bad?

Usually when your headgasket is leaking, you'll lose coolant(antifreeze). Is your radiator still full?

Have you done a compression and leakdown test yet? That will help you determine what is bad.

If you are going to do the headgasket, you might as well invest another few hours and replace the piston rings. You'll be kicking yourself when you have it all back together and it still smokes.

Naw, I don't know where to get that done at. The leakdown will tell me if my piston rings are bad correct? Do you have the DIY for Piston Rings. Also where can you get a cylinder hone? And what type stones do you need?

I get a whole lot of White Smoke when I drive my car now. It almsot just pours out the back. When I rev up. What would the white smoke be. I heard it would be a bad headgasket and coolant leaking in my cylinders. But I noticed that it looks like there is a leak on the outside of the headgasket, like oil and water mixed. What color would the smoke be if I had bad Piston rings?

Any competent mechanic should be able to do a leakdown test for you. The leakdown will tell you if you have a bad headgasket, valve seat, or piston rings. As far as the piston rings, you need to pick up a Helms manual. I used the 1400 page service manual for guidance. It is pretty straightforward, and if you want more details about it, PM me. The cylinder can be honed wherever you do the job. Just rent/buy the tool, attach some brand new 400 grit stones on it and then attach it to a drill. Make a few motions up and down each cylinder after lubricating it and then wash it and oil it.

It could be your headgasket. If the rings were bad, the smoke would have a blueish tint to it.

I replaced the valve seals about 2-3 months ago with some Toga Performance ones. So I don't think it would be a Vavle Seal. As for the color of the smoke, it is Definitly WHITE. By the way who makes the best manuals?

Helms manuals are the best.
