89 and 90 differences?
What would be different about swapping an OBD0 B16 into a 89, rather than a 90? Would the 89 be harder? Both cars are SIs.
story though, I have a friend with a pretty nice CRX with new suspension, as well as a ZC motor in it, and he's trying to trade it for my Stock SI with shitty suspension. His car runs a lot better than mine, he just wants the 90 because it's "easier to put the b16 in" because of some wiring thing? I don't know much about it, I was just wondering if anyone had any problems with an 89 that they wouldn't have had with a 90?

I know they made various exterior differences, and bumped up the HP on the A6 from 105 to 108, but since the engine is OBD0, no sensors were added, and the wiring should remain relatively the same...
Then why is this guy telling me he needs a 90/91 because of the "89" and "90" difference in something, related to the swap? Do you think he could just want my car?
His > mine, so I don't see why he'd want mine...

Do some homework, he probably wants your car because its built sturdier. I have a 90 CRX, and my friend has a 89. Relativly they are the same car, but the older models have a more rigid frame and hold up better when stressed. If he wants to do some serious modifications, the 88 and 89s have stiffer chasses. And there is probably seriously wrong with his car that he DOESNT want to tell you (like a burnt cylinder, or bad piston rings or something)

Honestly bro, I dont know... I did search, but I cant find anything saying the wiring is different from 88-91 Si's, only the DXs (they need MPFI)... All the conversion harnesses for the 88-91 are the same, all the how-tos Ive read... My book on swaps, dosnt say anything on it either... The 88-89s are lighter, but then why trade for the heavier 90? I dunno... The only pluses of the 88-89 vs 90-91s are they do, in my opinion, look better... But nothing some 90-91 tails, bumper, fender, and corner lights wont fix...
aggreed, like i said before have a mechanic check his shit out ( which means a FULL diagnosis, and run a CARFAX report) yes he is your friend, but that doesnt mean he isnt tryin to trade you shit for beans. Just take it in and its his responsiblity to have everything checked out before the trade, let us know how it goes man

--Interior
-His car right now has a gutted interior except for 2 Ricaro seats (that I'm not keeping).
-I have a complete CRX interior, no damage to it at all, that I would keep to put into it.
-His moon roof works and is in pretty good condition.
-Mine is off of the track so it won't move.

--Rust/Body
-My CRX has no rust. He is in the process of replacing his rust with metal (he works at a car dealership so he has top-notch body work tools.)
-Mine has no rust.
-His has a hood that latches properly.
-My hood popped up on me, bending the hood, and messing up the windshield.
--Engine
-He has a ZC engine, with header, full exhaust, intake, and a stage 2 clutch, short throw shifter. This car feels very fast, and gets up and goes like nothing.
-My engine is stock 1.6 si engine, and it smokes some, but other than that, I'm not sure what kind of clutch.
--Suspension/Brakes/Axels
-He has new 96 SI axels in. He broke the old ones.
-My suspension is shot to hell. So many things wrong with it.
Overall, since I get to keep my interior and a lot of body pieces (since he's going to drive it around gutted anyway,) I think that the engine and chassis all together is a pretty nice deal, especially since I won't have to pay for anything. I'm just trying to figure out why he's trying to take something he's put 1700$ worth of parts and work into, give it to me, and take my CRX that has like 1700-2000$ worth or work and parts it still needs. He says it's because it's easier to put the b16 he's got into the car.
