They are different types, that is why. The Vortec is a centrifugal supercharger that "functions" more like a turbo because of the curved fins spun by a rod whereas the Jackson Racing one is powered by a belt that spins rotors.

Yeah, I'm kind of stuck on the same thing a little more low end & top end. A guy at the Atco Nopi show was telling me of a few things I can do for my B16A1 & my GSR. On my B16 this guy said I should use a skunk 2 manifold which is a little cheaper than the Type R should give more top end. I need another tranny so he said I should do a Type R tranny which also has LSD so I should have more top end also. I can do a hydro conv. for my 91 Si Civic. Would any one recommend this or just get another B16A tranny w/ LSD. I have a intake, exhaust & 4-2-1 DC sports.. Any advise hollar.

if i'm not mistaken a friend of mine said that a lightweight flywheel will help with low end power, as well as getting some mild cams, and as someone else said 4-2-1. i got a 90 crx si with the stock d16a6 in it. my clutch is sticking open so it's costing me like 3-4 seconds total in the quarter. i'm the president of a car club in victoria,TX and i got beat by my 2nd slowest car here a couple a weeks ago because of the damn clutch. basic point to remember....KEEP A GOOD CLUTCH IN AT ALL TIMES!!!!

i'm willing to bet b16a.

anyways, why do people always talk about the b18b? why do they skip over the b18a1? is it a bad engine to put into a crx?

It's funny u mention that b/c my supplier doesn't even stock the b181, I wonder y that is?Try this website though http://www.osakajdmmotors.com/introhonda.htm . As I said they don't even stock the b18a1 but you can contact them with tech questions.

Well, the 90-91 B18A1 is actually the easiest B18* to get into a CRX. It will feel exactly like any other B18A or B18B, and is every bit as strong because they are all nearly identical aside from the electronics.

Osaka doesn't stock them because there is no such thing as a "JDM" B18A. JDM B18B's are rare themselves, since they where only availible in the early third gen Integra ESi.
