Default decided on an ef

after lots of thinking and researching, ive decided to get an ef of some kind. either an 88-91 crx or hatch. ive got 2g in the bank and am getting rid of my dsm, hoping to get about 4k for that. I was wondering, taking into consideration ease of swap (dont want too much downtime or problems), money, and reliability (daily driver) what swap would be the best choice. ive pretty much ruled out the ls/vtec because of reliability and maintenance issues. i wanted to go all motor, and get the 1st gen b16 swap, but ive been hearing a lot of good things about the DOHC ZC swap. I was wondering how well the DOHC ZCs respond to boost (no vtec, doesnt seem too promising for all motor power) my basic goal as of now is to be able to walk on a prelude with basic bolt ons (i/h/e). im no master mechanic, and i wont pretend to be. I just want some input from people with experience and know how. What kind of power can be expected from a fairly built all motor DOHC ZC, about how much would it run me from beginning to end, and like i said how well do they take to boost? While ive heard many good things about the b16 as well, even though its mostly been biased and coming from the traditional "v-tech yO!" so called honda-enthusiast.

so long story short, what would you recommend? do the DOHC ZC and build or boost it, or suck it up, spend a little more and deal with the wiring and go with b16?

any input is appreciated, help out a kid trying to build a decent car, and more importantly do it right the first time

thanks again

DOHC Zc,build and boost it.

Reliable motors IME,affordable, and plug n play for the 88-91 Civic/Crx.

Don't waste your money on the b16.If you want a b series, drop that cash on the b18b then boost that, instead of the b16.

Have to agree with Mistacee...

If you like torque (and its nice to have for daily driving), then youll love the B18... And with turbo, itll be sweet! Id probably do a B16A tranny with LSD to help with acceleration and cornering tho...

But if not, then go DOHC ZC...

I opted for a D15B VTEC, and lacks torque, and tho Im impressed and love it (in VTEC higher RPMS), I cant help but wonder if I should have just went DOHC ZC for cheaper for its torque over the D15B...
