Wierd Shaking
I have a 1990 Civic Dx hatchback w/ a d16z6 sohc swap, and recently ive been having some steering problems.... when i start to brake even slightly, i can feel my steering wheel shake, at first i thought it was the tires which i replaced, but the shaking persisted, ive read some of the forums that it might be the rotors being warped, but the rotors i have are brembo slotted rotors, and they are pretty good shape, shoudl i try to get them resurfaced? or should i look toward something else as the problem, maybe the steering components and such, and if so, what are exactly the parts that i would check to make sure they are not broken or damaged? thanks for reading my post everyone.
Id say rotors... The slotted and specailly the drilled ones are actually more suseptible to warping because they are actually weaker (less mass than a normal one which is thicker)... Bottom line is any rotor will warp if u get it hot enough... So yea, even if they are brembos Id bet it was one of the rotors... As for what to do, you cant get the resurfaced if they are warped...You simply have to buy another one (or more if the others are bad as well which is usually the case)... And I dont think unless its really bad, that u can visually see it warped...
i think i might have figured out what's wrong w/ my car, since ive changed the tires (front ones only, can't afford rear yet), as i make a left turn, at around 45-50 degree angle the shaking and wierd noise stop.... this does not happen when i make a right turn.... but as i come back from the turn, the noise starts again, i think its my steering that's messed up.... im not too sure tho, would this still be because of the rotors? i think it's gonna be the steering mechanism, i might just get the rotors AND the steering fixed, any suggestions? thanks for replying.
Jack the front of the car up, get under the car, and have someone turn the wheel in each direction... See if its hitting something... Im not sure if that rules out rotors or not, but I would think the rotors would do it in any position since the whole spindle spins with the steering... So maybe its not the rotors...
