Default *help - '88 CRX needs new clutch*

hey there
got 192k on the original clutch, but it's time
looking for any info on how to do this myself - local garages want @ $500.
anyone know of any online step-by-step tutorials?
how 'bout parts suppliers?
I've done a fair bit of car work, but never a clutch
thanks for any hints

Get a helms service manual, from http://www.helminc.com/.
That will tell you how to do it and is a good resource for anything.
You also need a lift.

I'm surprised you got that much, my clutch was total junk at 162.

You know, for many shadetree mechanics, a FWD clutch is a lot of work. I thought about doing it, but I found a local shop that would do the job for $195 labor, and I decided it wasn't worth it for me to struggle with it all weekend if I could get it done for that price.

like what?
You disassemble the front suspension, pull out the axles, disconnect the shift linkage, pull out the speedo cable, take out the transmission mount, and pull out all the bolts and pop it off.

Like I said, you need a lift.

well, actually three of the four engine mounts are on the tranny, its not just one. There is a special tool you need to break the bolts off where the steering thing attaches and where the swingarm thing attaches. Its a rectangular piece with a bolt in one side and the end cut out of the other, i don't know what its called, but there like 10 bux at autozone. Taking the tranny out isn't really all that hard, but i have done it on a honda like 8 times, so it usually only takes me about two hours to change the clutch on a honda with a helping hand (for bascily just for the getting the tranny in and out part). Not impossible by any means, but expect to spend a good 8 hrs doin it if this is your first time.

New Honda OEM is best.
