Default Anyone?

Does anyone know from experience how good (reliable, strong running, well performing?) a stock 93 civic hatch v-tec is? I'm getting one installed in my car soon and wanted to see what others think of these engines (its going in my stock 91 civic hatch dx 1.5)? I don't know anything else about it at all (what model it is serial # etc) except that its used and has aprox 70,000 miles in it.
Also if you do a compression leak down test what does this tell you about it-in idiot language for those of us who can't even change the oil let alone do this test ourselves?
Thanks in advance for any help I can get here.

personally if i were you, i don't think i would do that swap, stock 93 vtec is the e-vtec which is economy, it has the same or less horsepower than the 1.5 you have now and it redlines at 5000 or 5200 vs 6500 or 6700......

i put a d15z1 vtec in my 93 civic dx sedan thinkin it would give me more power, but after hangin around here long enough I found my old engine had 102hp stock and my new vtec-e has 92 hp. So research before you buy. I still dont regret the engine swap being as that I had a blown engine which gave my car 0hp at the time and my new engine was $150

and its "vtec"
not v-tec, Vtek, vtech, or anythin else. just fyi.....

The compression tests check for the compression of the cylinder, which can tell you if you have something like a blown head gasket, piston ring, or busted valve seat. All of which is very important.

Not nessicarily.

In '93, the Civic Si hatchback was availible, with the 125hp D16Z6 engine. Not to be confused with the D15Z1 VTEC-E engine.

The D16Z6 is plenty strong for low boost or a light to moderate N/A build.
