Default How many miles did you get?...

...to your original honda civic engine (either before it went or so far)? I have a 91 Civic Hatch and my engine has 165,000 miles and needs an engine now.
I'm really curious to know how many miles others are getting on their original engine before rebuilding or replacing it. I sure thought i'd get more miles to my engine than that.

I currently have 183,000 miles (295,000Kms) on mine (90 HB Si)...still humming. My last hatch (90 HB STD) had 189,000 (305,000Kms) before it was introduced to the front end of a dodge ram at 50 Kph!

Default Well, this sucks for me then, huh?!

I knew it! Hondas should last longer than this. It's a 91 hatch dx, 5 spd, 1.5. Runs like a new car really smoothly, no leaks or anything. Never broke down. Engine looks excellent too. Problem is it smokes and burns oil (a quart every 2 weeks). Puffs of smoke here and there. Sometimes will smoke for a block or so then stop. It's gotten worse over time. I kept thinking the mechanics were scammin me when they told me thats all it could be is a worn engine. I've always maintained it well and its in such good shape that I assumed the other owner had too. So, I don't know why its gone bad early...

honda's are pretty reliable but if you mistreat them and do not perform maintenance even they will break down...

i've got 275k out of an 85 prelude dx (blew spark plug out of engine and that was it)
315k out of an 88 crx hf before i swapped the engine
175k out of an 92 prelude si before it was sold
150k out of a 89 accord lxi before it was sold

my friend's 88 lude has over 350,000 original miles... runs like a champ too! if you take care of the honda engine it will go for a LONG LONG time!

as for me:

my 1995 civic dx sedan had just over 161k when i sold it in may
my 1990 crx dx had about 123k (i think!) when i sold it last december
and my 1991 crx si has 182k.... needs valve seals but its running pretty good (bought it wrecked, haven't driven it on the road yet, its been sitting a LOT)

What color is the smoke?

White = Antifreeze
Blue = Oil
Black = Fuel

I'm assuming it's blue if you're burning that much oil...I'd do a search on here on what causes excessive oil burning and start hunting down your problem...otherwise you will have bigger problems later.
