1st gen b16 swap - lookin for anybody whos done it
Hey as the subject said i'm looking for anyone whos done a b series swap on a first gen. I'm looking for a new project and thought that an 84 hf rex with a b16 would just be fun as hell to rally with.
Any infos apprieciated (however you spell it

Done it specifically? no.
Have info on it? certainly.
'84 didn't really have an HF, there was only one trim model, but anyways, what info exactly are you looking for?

Thanks for the reply i was starting to think nobody new anything about it
Anyway the parts that are concerning me about the swap is the wiring and the fuel system. Do you know if a 1st gen b16 ecu can be made to work with the existing stuff or would i be better off using the zdyne conversion?
As far as the HF thing goes, outta curiosity when did that model come into play? And do you know anywhere that listed the different weights of the models and years?
Thanks,

Thanks,
The standard Si, DX, and HF trim models started coming into play in '85. As for the EFI conversion, I believe the B16 ECU will plug into an Si wiring harness, after you run the VTEC and knock sensor wires of course. Physically mounting the engine will require HASport mounts, the suggested axles, modified shift linkage, and that sort of stuff.
Thanks for the info -
Do you know any sites or write ups that cover a conversion to the si harness? (is it similar the 88-91 conversion?)
Also, did the models change much between 85-87 (weight wise?)
Thanks again,

There's not really any conversion it's more just swapping Si stuff into whatever non-Si you want to. As for the weights, I can't seem to find the file I had them saved in, and the CRX resource has had a redesign that leaves me perplexed, so the general rule to be aware of is that the newer the car, the heavier, and in each year, the range from lightest to heaviest will be HF, DX, Si.
If you haven't already, feel free to join the e-mail list I run for first gen CRX owners, there are several people that have switched over to EFI, at least one whose swapped in a B16, and others planning to go with a B series in the near future.
