No I am not thinking of something else....I know what I am talking about when it comes to this for the simple fact when the cv joint axle broke it broke part of it off in the tranny as well...If you don't believe go ahead and try it and prove me wrong it would of cost me around 600 dollars to fix it but I said **** it and sold it for 200 dollars and went and got me a Civic....

How long can I drive it like this before it becomes:

a) dangerous to my health?
b) dangerous to other components of the car?
c) misc?

Thanks

It depends on how bad the clunking noise is cause I drove my toyota for about a year and a half before it just broke!

Doesn't do it all the time...only while accelerating and turning right (Sometimes)...not left or in reverse, either way.

Well its not going to do it on your left cause your right side is the one that is worn out...To be better off go ahead and go get you a new or rebuilt axle at AutoZone or any other parts store ....lol...like v8guy said earlier replace the whole axle at once instead of doing one side then the other later. I am telling you now though its not all that easy to replace your axle if you don't have the proper tools...lol....Or if the damn thing breaks off in half to your tranny....Trust me not GOOD!!!! But anyways Good Luck!!!

Just replaced my driver side halfshaft. Cost me $60 plus my time... which ended up being a lot since I couldn't get the ball joint separated for an hour or so. Does anyone have a favorite (fast) technique for separating the ball joint?

Are you talking the lower ball joint?

If so...there a little flat part on the metal there where the ball joint drops into...give a few good raps on that with a mallet after you take out the cotter pin and the nut off...the BJ will pop out eventually.

Well this got done...$100CDN for a new drivers side axle...half an hours labour on my part...and no more broken CV joint. Damn that stuff inside the boot is nasty...it took me forever to get that shit off my hands!
