ANY 90-91 Civic or Crx cluster will plug n play in your car.My guess is that the cluster that you have is bad.Any other cluster will need to be rewired to work in it and will need to be custom fit in order to fit properly.

yeah look over the cluster u just tried to put in.look for fried connections or a bad burnt smell."the smell of corroded sod and wire is verry noticable"go look for another one and try it.also dont put a teggy tach in your car with a 8k redline if u dont have a motor that redlines that high, there is really no point unless u want it for looks.

YOU CAN PUT A 88-91 CLUSTER AN ANY CRX. YOU CAN PUT A 89 SI CLUSTER IN A 91 OR A 91 IN A 88 AND IT WORKS . IM NOT SAYING THERE IS SOME WORK INVOLVED BUT IT CAN BE DONE.YOU HAVE TO REALIGN THE PIN SETUP.

Why not?
You sure as hell can put ANY 90-91 Civic or Crx Cluster in.They are all plug n play. However i believe the 88-89 clusters only fit 88-89's,they will not fit 90-91's.The 88-89 shape/size is different from the 90-91.

Here is my write up on how to swap a 99-00 civic Si cluster in a crx. It has the pinouts for the 88-89 crx's and 90-91 crx's you could use the charts to match up the wires.
