Default Legal CRX Projects

In a previous thread I mentioned doing a CRX Type-R project. I'm in California so I'm aware there are a sh*t load of rules regarding street legal mods. Has anyone done a project like this in CA? What kind of steps can I expect to take to see this kind of project come to life? I've heard in some cases you need to have a referee(DOT, DMV, I'm not sure what organization) inspect and approve of certain mods, to be street legal. 2cents, 1cent, it does'nt matter...if you have any input or opinion I'd like to hear your about your experience. Thanks guys!

The actual swap would be legal as long as you use a US market B18C5 Integra Type R engine, which has not been stolen. From there, pretty much everything has to have a CARB exemption sticker that matches the car's body, enginewise.

CARB, you mean the California Air Resources Board? I'm still a little green about some of this stuff so...I don't mean to be ignorant

Yes. CARB issues special exemptions to certain parts, but the number has to match the engine and body, i.e. if you put a CARB exempt Integra header on your B18C5, the CARB exemption is no longer valid because it isn't in an Integra.

The easiest fix to this problem is to get the hell out of California. That place is a legal mess.

I remember the ground designs (i think they are the inventors of the black widow body kit(s) company modded a crx that is now all over car shows nation wide and was a highlight of an issue of the HCI magazine. I think they are in cali and i specifically remember them stating = its a street legal setup = either a b16 or b18 with a vortech supercharger on nos.
so yes i do belive you can mod your rex like that and have it street leagal in cali.

Yeah, I remember that seeing that setup. It's pretty sick, although I like the Mugen Flared Kit myself. CA is a fickin mess, and I would like to have a home in the Northwest where I hear there is no daytime speedlimit . I'd register my cars over there drive 'em here for "long term visits". Anyways, so it seems that rules pertaining to projects like this are a big clusterf*ck . But it sounds like it can be done.
